In July 2018, the Transportation Research Center (TRC) Inc. in partnership with DriveOhio and as part of SMART Columbus, US-33 Smart Mobility Corridor and Connected Marysville, broke ground on the SMARTCenter, a state-of-the-art automated and connected vehicle testing facility within the Transportation Research Center in East Liberty, Ohio. It is designed to test automated vehicles and smart mobility, and when completed it will be the largest autonomous vehicle testing facility in the world.
The SMARTCenter provides a testing area replicating a variety of real-world environments such as multi-lane intersections, roundabouts and a testing track that is six lanes wide and 1.2 miles long.
"This is a giant step forward in making Ohio the go-to state for developing vehicles and smart transportation technologies of the future," said Gov. John R. Kasich. "The SMARTCenter positions Ohio as the premiere destination for researchers, developers and manufacturers to test, build and deploy advanced mobility solutions that will make our roads safer and less congested."
